Breastfeeding, Baby Formula & Weaning
Breast feeding gives your baby the best start in life. Breast milk contains all the nutrients your baby needs in the right proportion and contains antibodies to help your baby build up resistance to infections like coughs or colds. Your baby may be less likely to develop allergies and breast milk is as natural as possible.
Therefore the WHO (World Health Organisation) recommends exclusive breast feeding during the first 6 months and breast feeding should be preferably continued beyond the first year of life. If breast feeding is not possible or your baby needs additional food consult your paediatrician, GP or Health Visitor.
Holle milk formulas are developed as closely as possible with breast milk in mind. In this way you can have a good quality, organic alternative for your baby if you decide not to breastfeed, or when you decide to stop breastfeeding.
Holle’s Organic Infant Formula 1 Baby Milk and Organic Infant Goat Milk Formula 1 are especially formulated for very young babies and contains all necessary nutrients for the first six months of life. All Holle formulas are made using milk from biodynamically raised cows and goats. This pure Demeter and organic quality, and their strict quality control gives peace of mind of a healthy and tasty formula milk you can trust. Holle Organic Infant Formula 1 and Organic Infant Goat Milk Formula 1 baby milks can be given exclusively from birth for the first six months, or as a supplement to breastfeeding, as well as whilst weaning onto solid foods.
The time to start weaning your baby or to change from breast milk or Holle Organic Infant Formula 1 Baby Milk and Organic Infant Goat Milk Formula 1 to Holle Organic Follow-on Milk 2 or Organic Infant Goat Milk Formula 2 depends entirely on your baby’s needs. As long as your baby is happy and full after a feed you can continue to give your usual milk. If your baby is showing signs of needing more food after 4 months, or if at 6 months of age you wish to start to wean your baby onto solid foods, this means that some bottle feeds are gradually replaced by purées and porridges. This is the time that you can also change to Holle Organic Follow-on Formula 2 without problems. Unlike Infant Formula 1, Follow-on Formula 2 is to be given as part of a balanced weaning diet of bottle feeds and purées and porridges and is not to be given exclusively. Holle Organic Infant Follow-on Formula 3 and Organic Infant Goat Milk Follow-on Formula 3 and the Holle Organic Growing-up Milk 4 products are suitable for the increasing nutritional needs of older babies from about 10 months and 12 months of age respectively.
